Omicron is not common cold, govt concerned about overuse, misuse of drugs, says VK Paul

Omicron is not a common cold and there should be a rational approach to the use of medicine, said Niti Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul on Wednesday. Paul's statement came at a time when as many as 300 districts in India are reporting weekly Covid-19 case positivity of more than 5 per cent, according to data provided by the Union Health Ministry.Omicron is not a common cold, it's our responsibility to slow it down, said Paul. He exhorted people to wear masks and get vaccinated.
Terming that Covid-19 vaccines are helpful to an extent, Paul said that vaccination is the critical pillar of India's Covid-19 response.
