2 officials suspended for no checks on illegal construction

Taking action against “erring” employees of the building branch, the local bodies department has suspended an assistant town planner and a building inspector.
The officials have been suspended following an inquiry by the chief vigilance officer on a complaint for allowing illegal construction work in a privately developed colony on Chandigarh road. Principal secretary, local bodies department, Vivek Pratap issued the suspension orders after getting an approval from local bodies minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar.
The building plans were summitted for approval to construct shop-cum-offices, but before getting the approval, construction had started.
The officials claimed that last year, a complaint was lodged with the CVO of local bodies department who then conducted a probe.
