Bathinda, Sept 18, 2025: Punjab Police on Thursday arrested Gurpreet Singh, a law student from Jeeda village in Bathinda, who was allegedly planning a suicide attack on the Indian Army. He was taken into custody soon after being discharged from AIIMS, where he had been undergoing treatment following a powerful blast at his residence on September 10.
Officials said Singh was critically injured while assembling a bomb, leading to the amputation of his right hand. Investigations revealed that he had purchased a large quantity of chemicals online and had already prepared nearly two kg of explosive material before the accidental explosion.
Police described Singh’s intentions as “extremely dangerous” and said that a major tragedy was averted. His arrest is expected to provide further clues about the conspiracy. Meanwhile, Bathinda police have sealed his house and completed forensic examinations of the chemicals recovered.
Given the sensitivity of the material, the police have also sought technical assistance from the Army to aid the investigation.
