Jerusalem: U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the Knesset on Monday, urging Israel to leverage its victories against Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran over the past two years to work toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
Trump called the conflict over, saying, “Israel, with our help, has won all that they can by force of arms… Now it is time to translate these victories into the ultimate prize of peace and prosperity.” He promised to assist in rebuilding Gaza and urged Palestinians to abandon terror and violence.
The U.S. President also extended a gesture toward Iran, emphasizing friendship and cooperation despite earlier tensions, including airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
All 20 hostages held by Hamas were released on Monday as part of a ceasefire agreement, marking the first phase of Trump’s peace plan. This includes:
-
Release of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel
-
Surge of humanitarian aid to Gaza
-
Partial pullback of Israeli forces from major Gaza cities
Trump will continue to Egypt for a summit with over two dozen nations. While Israeli lawmakers gave him a standing ovation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump as “the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House” and reaffirmed his commitment to peace.
The situation remains fragile, but Trump called the moment a historic opportunity to reshape the region and reset relations between Israel and its Arab neighbors.
