Mumbai, October 14, 2025: In a deeply saddening development, veteran Punjabi and Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill’s father, Satyajit Singh Shergill, passed away on October 11 at the age of 90.
According to family sources, the Bhog and Antim Ardas ceremony will be held on October 14 at Gurudwara Dhan Pothohar Nagar, located in Santacruz West, Mumbai.
Born Jasjit Singh Gill, Jimmy Shergill hails from a Sikh family originally from Deokahia village, Sardarnagar, in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Notably, Jimmy’s great-aunt was the renowned painter Amrita Shergill, considered one of the most celebrated avant-garde women artists of the early 20th century.
In earlier interviews, Jimmy Shergill had shared that his relationship with his father had once gone through a rough patch. The two reportedly didn’t speak for nearly one and a half years after Jimmy decided to cut his hair and remove his turban, a move that upset his traditional Sikh father deeply.
“We are from a Sikh family, so my family expressed displeasure over this childishness of mine,” Jimmy had once said. “At that time, I didn’t know I would become an actor. Everything just happened on its own.”
Jimmy Shergill made his film debut with Gulzar’s “Maachis” (1996) and rose to fame with “Mohabbatein” (2000). Over the years, he has earned acclaim for his performances in films like Haasil, Munnabhai MBBS, Raqeeb, My Name Is Khan, and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster.
He is currently gearing up for upcoming projects including De De Pyaar De 2, Bullet Vijay, and Mr. I.
