Kyiv, Sept. 7 — Overnight Russian strikes across Ukraine left at least four people dead and dozens injured, officials said, as a major government building in the capital caught fire following the bombardment.
The State Emergency Service reported that multiple high-rise buildings in Kyiv were damaged. Photos posted on Telegram showed firefighters battling flames on the upper floors. According to officials, at least two people were killed and 18 others wounded in the capital alone.
Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers building, which houses the government’s offices in Kyiv, sustained heavy damage in the strike. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed the incident, saying the roof and upper floors had been hit.
“The roof and upper floors were damaged due to an enemy attack. Rescuers are extinguishing the fire,” Svyrydenko wrote on Telegram.
An AFP reporter at the scene observed smoke billowing from the roof as helicopters circled overhead, dropping buckets of water in efforts to contain the blaze.
The overnight assault adds to the mounting civilian toll of Russia’s ongoing campaign, with Ukrainian authorities warning of further potential attacks in the coming days.
