Russia has offered India a 5% discount on crude oil imports, drawing sharp criticism from Washington. The announcement came just as Donald Trump’s administration imposed sweeping tariffs on New Delhi.
Moscow’s deputy envoy Roman Babushkin called U.S. sanctions “unjustified and unilateral,” vowing that Russia would boost trade with India if America blocked it. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent accused India of “profiteering” by reselling Russian oil, but Moscow said India’s energy demand makes the partnership “complementary.”
The move underscores Russia’s bid to deepen energy ties with India while defying Western sanctions.
