Fresh revelations have surfaced in the death of Ludhiana Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Teerth Singh (50), who was earlier reported to have died by suicide. Police have now ruled out suicide, confirming that the ASI died after his pistol went off accidentally.
DSP Varinder Singh Khosa stated that preliminary investigation indicates the incident was an accident. “The gun went off accidentally and hit the ASI. So far, the evidence suggests it was an accident. However, a detailed investigation is underway,” he said.
According to police, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. when Teerth Singh was cleaning his service revolver inside his quarters. The weapon accidentally discharged, hitting him in the head and killing him instantly. Two other personnel were reportedly on duty nearby at the time.
DSP Khosa added that the post-mortem and forensic reports will confirm the distance and trajectory of the bullet to establish the exact cause. He clarified that despite media reports suggesting suicide, no evidence supports that claim so far.
The deceased, a resident of Kelpur village, was posted as a Miscellaneous Store Keeper (MSK) at the DIG Range office. He is survived by his wife, a homemaker, and three children — one son and two daughters — all residing in Canada.
Police said the wife’s statement is being recorded, and the post-mortem will be conducted once the children return from abroad. The investigation remains ongoing.
