Stockholm, October 9, 2025 — Hungarian novelist Laszlo Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy announced on Thursday.
The Nobel Committee praised Krasznahorkai for his “dense, visionary prose that captures the absurdities and anxieties of the modern human condition.” Known for his complex and poetic writing style, Krasznahorkai has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most original literary voices.
This year’s literature prize follows the announcements of Nobel Prizes in Medicine, Physics, and Chemistry, making it the fourth Nobel Prize declared so far in 2025.
Previous Winner
In 2024, the Literature Nobel went to South Korean author Han Kang, recognized for her work that “confronts historical trauma and exposes the fragility of human existence.”
