Kapurthala: An FIR has been registered against Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring for his alleged remarks about former Union Home Minister late Buta Singh. The case was filed following a complaint by Buta Singh’s son, Sarabjot Singh Sidhu.
Warring has been booked under Sections 353 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the SC/ST Act.
Earlier this week, Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema had warned that legal action would be taken against Warring. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) also issued a notice to the Tarn Taran deputy commissioner and SSP regarding the alleged “casteist remarks” made during a campaign rally for the November 11 Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll.
Facing criticism from multiple political parties, Warring later clarified that Buta Singh was like a father figure to him and that he never intended any disrespect. “If my words have hurt anyone, I sincerely and unconditionally apologise,” he said.
