Chandigarh, September 19 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several districts of Punjab today, offering much-needed respite from the prevailing humid conditions.
According to the forecast, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ropar, and Mohali are likely to receive showers at isolated locations. Light drizzle has also been predicted in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala.
The IMD added that strong winds may accompany rainfall in some areas. While the monsoon is expected to withdraw completely from Punjab by September 20, moderate showers are likely in the central parts of the state over the next two days. In the past 24 hours, Pathankot recorded 32 mm of rainfall.
On the temperature front, Mansa reported a maximum of 37.1°C, while Pathankot recorded a minimum of 24.8°C. The fresh spell of rain is expected to lower temperatures slightly, though no warning for heavy rainfall or storms has been issued.
Meanwhile, receding monsoon showers have helped reduce water levels in Punjab’s rivers, gradually normalising the situation in flood-affected areas.
