Gurdaspur, July 13 – In a major action against internal corruption, Inspector Inderbir Kaur, in-charge of the Punjab Police Saanjh Kendra in Gurdaspur, has been arrested on charges of corruption and extortion.
According to official sources, Kaur was allegedly extorting money from her own colleagues posted at the Saanjh Kendra. The issue came to light after a formal complaint was filed by a police official, backed by testimonies from three victims, stating that Kaur had been coercively collecting bribes on a routine basis.
Following a preliminary inquiry, the allegations were found to be credible, prompting police to register a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The arrest was conducted in the presence of senior police officials, and investigators confirmed that strong evidence had been collected regarding Kaur’s role in the illegal activity.
Authorities have hinted that the investigation is ongoing, and more staff members from the Saanjh Kendra may be questioned. It is being examined whether other personnel were also complicit or acting under pressure.
Saanjh Kendras are public service centres established by Punjab Police to offer citizen services such as FIR copies, character certificates, police verification, and passport verification reports.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the department, as the case highlights serious concerns about internal accountability within police-run public service units.
