In a major intelligence-led operation, the Amritsar Rural Police, in coordination with central agencies, arrested two terror suspects from Amritsar, identified as Mehakdeep Singh alias Mehak and Aditya alias Aadhi. During the operation, authorities also recovered a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), raising serious concerns about a planned terrorist attack in the region. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations revealed both accused were in contact with an operative of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, who provided them with the deadly weapon. The suspects were also linked to Harpreet Singh alias Vicky, currently lodged in Ferozepur Jail. Sources indicate that the recovered RPG was intended to be used in a terrorist attack. A case has been registered at Gharinda police station in Amritsar, and an extensive investigation is underway to dismantle the entire network involved in the conspiracy. Reaffirming the state’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism, DGP Yadav said the Punjab Police remains fully committed to eliminating ISI-backed terror and organised crime networks operating in the state. He emphasised that maintaining peace and communal harmony in Punjab remains the police’s top priority.
