Chandigarh, October 17:
In a tragic hit-and-run incident that has shocked the city, two sisters were hit by a speeding Thar vehicle in Chandigarh, leaving one dead and the other critically injured. The accused driver, identified as Neroshpreet Singh, a law student, has been arrested by the police.
According to officials, the incident took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 15, on the dividing road between Sector 45 and 46. The victims, 24-year-old Esha and her younger sister 22-year-old Sojef, were waiting by the roadside near Dev Samaj College when a red Thar coming at high speed rammed into them.
Eyewitnesses told police that the Thar hit the sisters with such force that they were thrown several feet away. The driver immediately fled the scene after the accident, leaving both victims grievously injured.
Both sisters were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 (GMCH-32), where doctors declared Sojef dead on arrival. Esha remains in a critical condition in the ICU.
The accident sparked anger among locals and the victims’ family, who alleged that police delayed action and tried to protect the accused. Following public outrage and protests, the police intensified their investigation.
Based on CCTV footage and the vehicle’s registration number, police identified the suspect and tracked down the red Thar used in the crime, which was seized earlier this week. The accused, Neroshpreet Singh, has now been arrested and is being interrogated to determine the exact sequence of events and whether he was under the influence at the time of the crash.
A senior police official said,
“We have arrested the driver and recovered the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken according to the law.”
