The U.S. State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas since January 2025 as part of the Trump administration’s intensified crackdown on immigration violations.
According to officials, most cancellations were linked to visa overstays and criminal offences, including assault, DUI, and burglary. Around 200–300 visas were also revoked under the Immigration and Nationality Act over alleged ties to terrorism.
The move is part of a broader effort to tighten immigration laws and reshape higher education policies in the United States. Reports also suggest that international students who joined pro-Palestinian protests—such as campus encampments or public demonstrations—are under increased surveillance, though officials have not confirmed whether this has led to direct visa actions.
