Mohali, November 1: A real estate businessman and his friend narrowly escaped an attempt on their lives late Friday night after unknown bike-borne assailants opened fire at them on Airport Road in Mohali, Punjab. According to reports, the victims managed to save themselves by ducking under their car seats as multiple rounds were fired. The attackers continued shooting as they fled the scene. Upon being informed, several police teams rushed to the spot, collected evidence, and recorded the victim’s statement. The assailants, however, remain at large. The victim has been identified as Dheeraj Sharma, a resident of Sunny Enclave, who owns a real estate firm named Balaji Estate, located near UCO Bank on Desu Majra Road. Preliminary police investigations indicate that the attack might be linked to an old rivalry or threat, though the exact motive has not been determined yet. Police are currently examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, and checkpoints have been set up across Airport Road, New Chandigarh, and surrounding regions to trace the suspects. Officials from Sadar Police Station recovered several bullet shells from the site and have registered a case in connection with the firing. Meanwhile, multiple raids are underway to identify and arrest the attackers. Police said the investigation is in progress and all possible angles, including personal enmity and business rivalry, are being probed.
